Tammy Tibbetts, CEO of She’s the First
For my first interview in the Tiny CEO Series, I spoke to Tammy Tibbetts, the co-founder and CEO of She’s the First. I donate half of my revenues to this organization, which supports girls around the world.
What is the most fun part of your job?
The most fun part of my job is that I get to wake up every day knowing that what I’m doing makes a difference, and I get to meet lots of cool and interesting people from different cultures and backgrounds and countries around the world and know that we share the same passionate values about girls’ rights.
What was the most challenging part of founding She’s the First, and what is the hardest part of working as CEO?
The hardest part of my job is that I have to be very organized, and my to-do list gets really long because I have so many creative ideas. There are so many things to think about, and when you don’t have a big staff, you have to do a lot of things on your own. But you can ask for help when you need it, so you don’t get overwhelmed.
What advice would you give to other female entrepreneurs who are starting their own businesses?
Some advice I have is to ask lots of questions if you don’t know something because it’s all about doing things you’ve never done before and figuring things out for the first time. But there are lots of people that have set up businesses, and you can learn from them.
Bonus Question: Do you like Taylor Swift?
Yes, I do very much. I got to meet Taylor Swift. The job I had before She’s the First was at a magazine, and I was there right when Taylor Swift was getting famous. Most people didn’t know who she was; she was still doing country music. I was the prom editor for the magazine. I got to interview her, and then she invited my best friend to her concert. I got to go with my friend to see her, at the first concert she ever did in NYC, at Madison Square Garden. And then we got backstage passes, and I still have a picture of when we got to meet her after the show.
